Carrie Ann Wong works for the New York State Office of Mental Health, Division of Forensic Services, Diversion Center. In her primary role, she develops and delivers training programs for law enforcement and correctional professionals, including wellness-focused in-service sessions for the first responder community. Ms. Wong was a curriculum co-developer and trainer for the Albany Police Department’s first Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program and continues to serve as an instructor for the New York State CIT initiative. She has also been teaching the Police Mental Health Recruit Curriculum since 2002.

Carrie brings more than 25 years of experience working directly with individuals diagnosed with mental illness and developmental disabilities. Throughout her career, she has consistently applied de-escalation, communication, and rapport-building strategies in high-stress and high-stakes environments. As a 15-year member of the Albany County Department of Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team, Ms. Wong provided emergency mental health assessments for individuals identified as emotionally distressed across 16 different police agencies—requiring calm-driven communication, scene stabilization, and collaborative problem-solving.

 

Her experience also includes work within a peer-run consumer agency, which encompassed a support line, a consumer-run drop-in center, and a hospital diversion program. These roles further strengthened her ability to connect, communicate, and guide individuals through moments of crisis, as well as instruct your organization or agency's tailored From Crisis to Calm® program.
