About Jeffrey G. Scholz
Jeffrey G. Scholz is a retired New York State Trooper with more than 24 years of service in the New York State Police and over 28 years of law enforcement experience. He is an IADLEST National Certified Instructor and a New York State DCJS Master Instructor.
Before retiring in May 2022, Jeff served as the Senior Investigator for BCI Training at the NYSP Academy in Albany, overseeing training for more than 1,100 Investigators, 3,000 Troopers, recruits, civilians, and outside agencies. He also served as Division Coordinator for the NYSP Crisis Negotiation Program, building on his 2006 certification as a Hostage Negotiator.
Throughout his career, Jeff developed and delivered programs on crisis negotiation, de-escalation, situational awareness, interviewing, bias awareness, and procedural justice. His field assignments included patrol, narcotics, computer crimes, and major crimes investigations — including homicides and missing persons — and he responded to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City.
Since founding 886 Consulting, LLC, Jeff has trained thousands of professionals in 17 states nationwide on de-escalation, communication, and officer safety and wellness. He also consults with the New York State Office of Mental Health and assists with cold case investigations for the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services.
