Joseph Auriemma, Jr., CFI, INCI, is a retired Senior Investigator with the New York State Police, bringing more than twenty-four years of experience in high-stakes policing, crisis response, and complex investigations. He supervised major criminal investigations, served in the Major Crimes Unit, and conducted thousands of interviews across homicide, sensitive crime, and critical incident cases, developing a reputation for calm, strategic communication in volatile situations.
Joseph’s de-escalation expertise is grounded in formal training and extensive operational service. He was trained in Crisis Negotiation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and served on the New York State Police Crisis Negotiation Team for 17 years. As a lead instructor at the New York State Police Academy, he taught Investigative Interviewing, Crisis Negotiation, and other communication-driven courses, blending behavioral analysis, trauma-informed practices, and structured communication strategies to help professionals reduce tension and guide encounters toward safe outcomes.
A nationally recognized IADLEST-Certified Instructor (INCI) and Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Joseph has trained law enforcement, educational institutions, and private-sector teams across the country. He now provides specialized training and consulting through Advanced Strategic Communications (ASC).
